The power of the collective

Flowers and plants make our world greener. They color our homes, gardens and neighborhoods. A green environment makes people happy. Royal Floraholland is the largest international floriculture marketplace of flowers and plants: an association of growers with a business. Together we strive for the best price for flowers and plants, with the best quality, and at the lowest possible cost. By combining expertise and strength, we achieve sustainable success, international growth and strengthen the cooperative.

Our history

Our history spans over a hundred years. We continue to strive for sustainable success for our members by working together with all parties in the floriculture sector, ensuring ongoing growth in the sector.

Our ambition

At the heart of our cooperative is the collective effort of growers to secure the best possible market prices for their flowers and plants. We have two primary goals: to remain a healthy and attractive cooperative for our members and to build the largest international B2B platform in the floriculture sector. Sustainability is a crucial foundation for this, driving us to continually evolve. We proactively respond to challenges and opportunities, innovating to maintain and enhance our strong position.

Our working environment

We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels comfortable and returns home safe and healthy every day. To this end, we culivate a safe, pleasant and healthy working environment, guided by our four core values: Reliable, Result-orientated, Collaborative and Innovative.

Our hubs

Royal FloraHolland has several locations in the Netherlands: Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg and Eelde. Our three physical hubs – Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg – are vital for maintaining sufficient processing capacity and ensuring the timely delivery of flowers and plants, making each hub equally important to our future. We aim to use these hubs as efficiently as possible for logistics and storage, while also minimising transport between hubs to reduce costs and enhance sustainability. To optimise distribution, we encourage members and growers to use data to decide the best way to offer their products. We also advise buyers to buy from the hub, maximising space efficiency and reducing the need for additional refrigerated rental space or transport.

In addition to utilising our own spaces, we also rent them out to trading companies, import processors, transporters and grower collectives that supply or deliver flowers and plants to us. This strategy supports our goal of helping growers expand internationally, which is why we maintain international locations as well.

The cooperative governance

Due to its size, Royal FloraHolland functions as a structured cooperative with a Supervisory Board, a Works Council and a Members' Council. The Management Board, as defined in the articles of association, is ultimately responsible for managing both the cooperative and the company. The Supervisory Board (SB) oversees the Management Board policies and the overall state of affairs within the business. The Members' Council exercises the powers previously held by the General Members' Meeting (GMM), such as appointing the members of the Supervisory Board and setting their remuneration, as well as approving the annual accounts and the main membership rates.
