Protect your floriculture business from telephone cyber fraud

We are seeing a sharp increase in telephone fraud, also known as social engineering. This is fraud where criminals impersonate IT employees over the phone. They create pressure or threats to trick you into sharing data or approving login requests. This method was also recently used in the attack on Odido in which access was gained to internal systems and customer data was captured. With this message, we want to alert you to this threat as well as provide you with tools to increase your resilience.

Digital resilience is becoming increasingly important, including in the floriculture industry. The industry relies on several IT systems that are crucial for day-to-day operations. Think of cultivation and climate systems but your administration and sales system are also indispensable. In the event of a hack, this could completely disrupt business operations. As Royal FloraHolland, we are working not only to make our own marketplace safer, but also to strengthen the resilience of the entire sector.

Tips to spot fraud attempts

  • Check the caller's phone number for discrepancies.
  • Be alert to unexpected contact or unknown senders.
  • Look out for unusual requests in your email or messaging app, such as unexpected login or approval requests.
  • Don't let urgency or threats pressure you; there is always time.
  • Never share passwords, Multi-Factor Authentication codes or approvals on unexpected Multi-Factor Authentication requests.
  • Also, never click on links or attachments you receive during a phone call.
