Final closing date for Royal FloraHolland Eelde: 30 June 2026

December 11, 2025

Eelde voorzijde 2

Following intensive consultations with growers, buyers and the customer committee, a final date has been set for the closure of the Royal FloraHolland hub in Eelde: 30 June 2026. This decision provides clarity for our employees and all parties involved and gives us the opportunity to make the most of the coming months together.

Proud of cooperation and commitment

‘The fact that we can continue to auction and trade until 30 June is only possible thanks to the outspoken commitment of growers, buyers and, specifically, the customer committee in Eelde,’ says proud location manager Arie Bezemer. ‘We've had many discussions and all members of the customer committee, led by chairman Frits Jilderda, have unanimously given their commitment. Their willingness to continue buying actively until the closing date means that growers will continue to supply and that together we can achieve a strong closing trading period, including the important spring peak.’

Support for new initiatives

Royal FloraHolland actively supports initiatives from market parties to investigate which functions they can organise together after 30 June. These include ideas from Theun Faber of Faber Bloementransport to organise transport flows for purchased flowers and plants from other Royal FloraHolland hubs. The possibility of setting up a collection and distribution point for logistics resources in Eelde is also being explored. Royal FloraHolland will not be organizing this directly, but is actively contributing ideas to a group of buyers from the customer committee, transporters including Faber Bloementransport, and wholesalers such as Eurofleur (Star & Van de Gugten, Smalbil, Bloemmozaiek, Wiljan, Intervema) and the Groen Groep Eelde. Bezemer: ‘Together, we will ensure a dignified conclusion that does justice to the significance of Royal FloraHolland Eelde for the sector. It is wonderful to see how local entrepreneurs are joining forces to explore how certain functions and services can be continued in the future.’

Impact and support

The closure will have far-reaching consequences for our employees in Eelde, almost all of whom will lose their jobs on 30 June 2026. We have started workshops and, with the help of a specialist agency, will be providing them with intensive support in finding new jobs. For growers and buyers, the period until 30 June offers time to set up alternative purchasing and sales methods. Royal FloraHolland will continue to support all parties in this transition in the coming period.

Thank you for your commitment and cooperation

‘Eelde has played an important role in our sector for many years. We are grateful to everyone for their commitment and dedication to continuing to work hard in the coming months and working towards a fitting conclusion to an era in Eelde. This means a great deal not only to our employees, but also to me personally,’ said Bezemer.
