These flower auction groups will switch to order picking in Aalsmeer in September

September 2, 2025

Gerbera

We are redesigning our logistics and IT and will work in a consistent way across all hubs. Step by step, we are moving from distribution to order picking and ultimately to delivery in time slots. In Rijnsburg, Eelde and Naaldwijk, we now order pick all flowers and plants. In Aalsmeer, since last year, all plants have also been included. For flowers in Aalsmeer, Royal FloraHolland took the first step in spring with order picking of auction groups of chrysanthemums. From Thursday 18 September 2025, many other auction groups will also be switched to order picking.

It involves the following auction groups on September 18:

From clock A03
340 Lisianthus va 70 - 5+
342 Lisianthus tot 70 - 5
126 snapdragon group
127 Aconitum
107 Sorted/Over/B1

From clock A12
121 Phlox group
185 Woodland
730 Gerbera mini water
740 Gerbera mini box
735 Gerbera Novelties
760 Gerbera bl box
750 Gerbera bl water

A second round will take place on Thursday 25 September, with the following auction groups in Aalsmeer switching to order picking:

From clock A03
152 Berry shrubs
142 Astilbe

From clock A12

277 Deco green cooled

What does this change mean?

Order picking brings with it a number of changes and opportunities. Here are the main changes:

Growers: the auction order for the auction groups no longer depends on the logistics set-up thanks to order picking. The auction order will be determined by random grower lots (by administration number) from 18 September 2025. Also, as a grower, you get more opportunities to determine the auction order of the products yourself. You can now also transport multiple auction groups on a single trolley.

Buyers: as a buyer, you will still receive the purchased products before the end of the process. What has changed is the order of delivery. The auction order no longer determines logistical processing, so you may receive products from the above auction groups in a different order.

Help keep the order picking process running smoothly and follow the supply rules. This avoids unnecessary errors in the order picking process and helps the buyer identify products properly.

Select Delivery

From 1 September, Select Delivery, or delivery in time slots, is also available for the flowers that are in order picking arrangements in Aalsmeer. You can choose from the time slots below via the time slot screen in Floriday per buyer card for clock and Auction Presales:

  • Time slot 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. (Auction Presales, 1.47 euros per transaction)*
  • Time slot 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (0.25 euros per transaction on Mondays/first working day)*
  • Time slot 6:00 a.m. – 13:00 p.m. (standard costs)
  • Time slot 11:00 a.m. – 15:00 p.m. (0.50 euros discount per transaction on Mondays/first working day)*

If you do not make a choice, you will receive the products in the standard 6:00 - 13:00 time slot. If you have already made time slot choices for Aalsmeer flowers, the new auction groups will be delivered within the chosen time slots.

Step by step

As always, care is paramount in the switch to order picking. We experience, learn and optimise before we take the next step. Because even in times of change, reliable service comes first. This will bring us closer to a single logistics operation and system at all hubs. René Krukkert explains why this is important in this article.

More information

Growers and buyers affected by the switch to order picking will receive an email. It lists the most important changes and options in a handy format. If you still have any questions, your account manager, the LDK team manager for your delivery area and the Customer Contact Centre will be happy to help.

*You also pay the usual transaction fee of 1.85 euros per transaction and the other standard rates.
