Introduction of new low reusable support shelving Fc595 for Fc588 flower bucket
June 3, 2024
Royal FloraHolland is launching the low reusable Fc595 support shelving this summer as an alternative to the existing low single-use cardboard support collars. The development was a collaborative effort with FPC Roos, VGB and major users of support collars. With the new support shelving, we aim to support our ambition, and that of the floriculture chain, to use packaging materials more sustainably and contribute to reducing waste. The implementation of this sustainable support shelving will be phased, with Product group Roos being the first to start using the Fc595 from Monday 1 July 2024.
Sustainability of logistics supplies is high on the agenda at Royal FloraHolland. Part of this involves reducing the amount of waste generated by logistics supplies. The development and introduction of the low reusable Fc595 support shelving will help with this and is expected to save 100,000 kilos of cardboard per year.
VGB: Less cardboard is a positive development
"Every year, hundreds of thousands of cardboard support collars are removed at wholesale locations, particularly for roses. Why? Because the packaging is often repackaged into smaller order quantities or transferred into different packaging. This not leads to unnecessary costs but also a huge waste problem," says Floor Schamp (pictured), Strategic Advisor on Sustainability at the VGB (trade association for the wholesale trade in flowers and plants). “Therefore, it is commendable that Royal FloraHolland is responding to the call for sustainability from the VGB, the Versnellers and our affiliated trading houses to tackle the unnecessary production and use of cardboard support collars within the floriculture chain. The introduction of the low reusable support shelving is a significant step towards sustainable packaging in our industry."
Phased introduction
We have chosen a phased introduction by product group to ensure sufficient availability of the Fc595. The Rose product group will start in early July 2024. If you are interested in using the low reusable support shelving outside these product group, or if you have any questions or want more information about the Fc595, please contact our Customer Contact Centre. They will be happy to assist you.
Features of Fc595
The Fc595 support shelving is designed for reusable flower bucket Fc588. This is choice is intentional, as we see that it is bucket is the most widely used and continues to grow in popularity. So, for the majority of the market, the Fc595 is a very suitable alternative to the single-use cardboard collar. An additional application is that the existing extension rack Fc598 can be placed on the Fc595, offering a solution for flowers of 70cm and longer. In short, a nice addition to our assortment of reusable flower packaging. In terms of material, colour and design, the shelving aligns with the existing pool packaging. The deposit and rental rates for this new support shelving are the same as for the existing Fc598 rack for the Fc588.
