Formal and informal Members' Council meeting - 22 June

June 27, 2023

Ledenvergadering22juni
Two meetings took place on 22 June. A formal Members' Council meeting, which was chaired by Supervisory Board chairman Jack Goossens. This formal Members' Council meeting was followed by an Informal Members' Council meeting chaired by Members' Council chairman Peter Smak.

Formal Members' Council meeting

The main topic of the Formal Members' Council meeting was appointment and reappointment within the Supervisory Board. Agenda points:

1. Motivation and nomination of Richard "Kiki" Fernandes

2. Motivation for reappointment of Evert van Helvoort

3. Motivation for extended reappointment of Rosaline Zuurbier

4. Motivation for succession of SB chairmanship - Evert van Helvoort to succeed Jack Goossens

With this proposed new composition of the SB, the working language within the SB should also be changed from Dutch to English. The Members’ Council expressed its concerns in this regard. This is about whether complex issues and discussions can be properly conducted in English, as well as whether the English language might be a barrier for new SB candidates in the future. It was also noted that with Kiki joining the SB, as many as 3 members with an international profile are joining the SB. The Cooperative Committee indicated that the process went well and that all these points were also raised in the discussions leading up to these nominations. An intensive programme has been launched to prepare stakeholders for the switch to English with training and courses, among others.

During the vote, all appointments and reappointments were approved. The above appointments will take effect on 1 January 2024

Informal Members' Council meeting

It was a packed agenda with a great deal of information and updates from the company to the Members’ Council.

Floriway
Gertjan Breij joined the meeting to introduce himself as Floriway's new Managing Director. Questions had arisen in recent weeks following press reports about how Floriway was doing. Gertjan provided an explanation and gave the Members' Council his view of the company. Importantly, he sees huge potential for Floriway. With his experience and vision, he will work hard to flesh out his plans in the coming period.

In our cooperative together

In addition, the topic of 'In our cooperative together' was discussed at length. Both the company's working group and the Members’ Council have worked hard in recent months to explore and consider all scenarios and options. Good progress has been made. The idea is to submit the plans to Members as soon as possible. Additional membership sessions will be organised at which everyone is welcome. More information on this will follow as soon as possible.

Bloemenbureau Holland
The last topic discussed was the future of Bloemenbureau Holland. It is known that growers voted in favour of a universally binding rule in April, but that the trade did not give sufficient support. RFH is currently in discussion with BBH and the trade with the aim of reaching an agreement about financing. If this succeeds, there is a possibility that RFH will provide bridging funds by temporarily extending the current collection of BBH funds.
