We are working together with various partners on a responsible and simplified plastics chain. We are also investigating the sustainability and optimisation of our waste streams and water use.
Packaging
Packaging has an important chain function. Transport packaging ensures a high degree of standardisation and therefore contributes to an efficient chain. Packaging also protects the carefully cultivated floriculture products throughout the chain. We therefore cannot do without them. However, we are trying to become as sustainable as possible and to use less plastic.
Plastic Pact: we will use 20% less plastic in 2025
In 2019, we signed up to the Plastic Pact NL.
We are working to reduce the environmental impact of single-use plastic packaging as much as possible. In particular, we have been able to implement many improvements and innovations in our own transport packaging, such as reusable packaging units. We are also working with various partners to create a responsible and simplified plastics chain. We are already meeting the first and fourth targets set by the Plastic Pact for 2025:

- Plastic products in packaging will be 100% recyclable in 2025
- By 2025, we will be using 20% less plastic than in 2017
- At least 70% of all single-use plastic products and packaging are recycled without any reduction in product quality
- All plastic products per company should consist of at least 35% recycled plastic on average

Product packaging
We are also working with chain parties and knowledge institutes on innovating and improving product packaging (such as flower sleeves and plant pots). Together, we are exploring the opportunities for taking concrete steps towards sustainability. We are taking a critical look at the design, materials, use and re-use, residual flows, recycling and new applications of packaging.
Waste streams
In addition, we continue to optimise and increase sustainability in terms of waste flows (plastic, cardboard and paper, organic flower and plant waste) and water (reducing the use of drinking water, reusing water, water purification).
Circularity of raw materials in Floradôme
In the new Floradôme, sustainability and the connection with the sector and employees play a key role. The building doesn’t only look green, it’s very green in other ways too. This is due to the circular use of raw materials, the building’s low energy consumption and a focus on biodiversity. A lot of residual flows and renewable raw materials were used for the carpet, curtains, insulation material and the reception desk. Auction trolleys and flower packaging units are also being reused.
