Bastian van den Hoogen

Florius BV
Product group: Hypericu and Veronica

Region: Brabant / Kenya / Ethiopia / Colombia

Who are you?

I am Bastian van den Hoogen, managing director at Florius Flowers where I am directly responsible for the breeding worldwide, as well as our operation in Colombia. I do this largely from Cuijk, North Brabant where Florius' logistics department is also located, alternating this with visits to our various locations.

Why do you want to make an active contribution to our cooperative?
The flower trade and delivery to the auction is something I am involved with a lot at our location in Cuijk. I would like to use this knowledge to contribute ideas towards the future of the cooperative as well as strengthen my own knowledge within the sector.

How can you strengthen the Members’ Council?
With my background as a breeder and as a result of my insight into the different production locations worldwide, I believe I can provide added value to the Members' Council. A broad outlook on the international floriculture trade can help strengthen the market position of RFH members' products.

I was triggered in this regard by the proposed strategy of a good digital marketplace. A good digital marketplace can help strengthen the market position of growers' products, in part because it would make it easier for them to serve the market and give them an opportunity to end up deeper in the chain themselves, where possible without too many intermediaries.

As a result, it would also ensure flowers remain affordable for consumers at the end of the chain, in a changing world, without this being at the expense of the sales price for the nursery.

Luuk van der Burg

Vlasman Nursery
Product Group: Saintpaulia
Region: Mijdrecht

Who are you?
A Saintpaulia grower, present every day at the auction, but focused on direct sales. I like to know where I stand and like clarity. Right is right and wrong is wrong. I like to walk in the greenhouse, but prefer to work on the future, where we are still facing a few challenges, both individually and as a sector. I am trying to set up my business in such a way that my children can also become growers, should they want that.

Why do you want to make an active contribution to our cooperative?
Because looking to the future I think that there are still a lot of challenges and I think that I can make a useful contribution towards solving them. I also don't like standing on the sidelines, moaning but not wanting to do anything about it myself.

How can you strengthen the Members' Council?
By always adopting a long-term outlook. I am guided by numbers more than emotions, and can therefore make good decisions when that is needed. In recent years, I have been occupied with energy and staff, and I think that a lot can be gained in every organisation by addressing those topics.

Rob ten Have

Ten Have Plant / Gebr. Ten Have BV
Product group: Campanula

Region: Honselersdijk

Who are you?
I am Rob ten Have, managing director of Ten Have Plant. Our company has been a genuine family business for more than 100 years.

Why do you want to make an active contribution to our cooperative?
The cooperative needs active members; members who know what the cooperative stands for and want to help keep it strong and healthy.

How can you strengthen the Members' Council?
I am philosophical and strategically-minded. I like to analyse a problem properly and see what the underlying cause is. Possible solutions should be carefully considered in terms of feasibility and affordability. In doing so, I hope to strengthen the Members' Council and Royal FloraHolland.

Stefan de Frankrijker

Van der Salm BV / Gebr. Van der Salm BV
Product group: Lavendula and Gaultheria
Region: Boskoop / Portugal

Who are you?
Stefan de Frankrijker, 46 years old and together with my girlfriend Nina, we are the proud parents of 3 sons; Finn (14), Faas (12) and Tuur (6).

I live in beautiful Rietveld, a small hamlet in the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn where we have a kind of children’s farm with a cat, dog, chickens, ducks, swans and 5 sheep.

I have now been working 14 years as Financial Manager at Van der Salm B.V., a company with 14 locations in the Netherlands and Portugal, and 150 permanent employees. We grow Lavender, Gaultheria, Conica, Ilex, Mandevilla, Pinus Pinea and Deco Fruit.

Why do you want to make an active contribution to our cooperative?
I would like to make an active contribution to our cooperative, because as a company we understand the importance of RFH and its position in our sector.

Not only is RFH an important factor in the trade of flowers and plants, but it also plays a central role in all developments affecting our sector, such as digitisation and sustainability.

In the case of types of developments, RFH is an important discussion partner whose role it is to represent the interests of our sector; a role that most individual companies cannot fulfil themselves.

How can you strengthen the Members' Council?
I have extensive experience within the tree nursery sector and am currently a member of the FPC Tree Nursery Products.

Previously, I was active as a general board member for Greenport Boskoop for a number of years.

Through the Members' Council, I would like to contribute ideas and, where possible, give advice on the running of the cooperative, and in doing so, I will not lose sight of the interests of all growers (members and suppliers).

Ir. Wilhelmus Antonius Adrianus (Willem) van der Voort

Bestplant
Product group: Spathiphyllum
Region: Poeldijk

Who are you?
I am a cooperatively-minded entrepreneur with broad interests and more than 30 years of experience in the sector.

Why do you want to make an active contribution to our cooperative?
Throughout my career, I have believed in, and been actively engaged in, collaborations in the sector. Whether that involved industry associations for propagation materials, growers' associations or, more recently, cooperatives for geothermal energy, I have always seen the added value thereof.

However, collaborations only succeed if members are involved in the developments and therefore have an influence on them.

How can you strengthen the Members' Council?
Based on my experience with all kinds of collaborations, both inside and outside the floriculture sector, I would like to contribute to the further development of Royal FloraHolland. In the rapidly-changing environment, it is very important that the cooperative takes action in time and adapts to the needs of the members of the future and/or the long-serving members in the sector.

I am very fond of the cooperative and it is an important extension of our company.
I also believe in the power of the horticultural complex that we have built here. We would not have achieved this without the cooperative.

How can you strengthen the Members' Council?
Based on entrepreneurship, but also on the cooperative idea, I expect to be able to contribute to the further development of our auction. The auction is constantly facing major challenges, it's great to be able to contribute to solutions as a grower to meet these challenges.
