Digitalisation in the horticultural sector requires more than just technology: collaboration and buy-in are crucial. OZ-Planten and Adfocom demonstrate how a joint approach leads to a more efficient ordering process and future-proof trade. Currently, 95% of all orders are placed based on stock availability in Floriday. The result: fewer errors, greater certainty throughout the supply chain and greater peace of mind within the organisation.

From retrieving stock to ordering from stock

When OZ-Planten switched to the new Business Central ERP system in 2024, it was the perfect moment to fully integrate Floriday. Michael Houwaart, operations manager at OZ-Planten: “Previously, we only retrieved stock records via Floriday; now we also place orders based on this stock. This provides certainty more quickly and reduces errors.” Martijn Kempen, consultant at Adfocom, adds: “With our Greenline module, we seamlessly link Floriday to Business Central. In this way, we support the entire process, from order to invoicing.”

Phased approach and collaboration

The implementation of Floriday took place step by step. First flowering houseplants, then garden and houseplants. Michael: “Floriday put us in touch with a leading group of growers. By working in phases, we were able to guide suppliers effectively and check delivery conditions such as lead times and minimum order quantities. This allowed us to make a controlled transition to the new technology.”

Labels as the next step

During the roll-out, labelling also came into the picture. Martijn: “Ordering was sorted out quickly from a technical point of view, but additional services such as labels require extra coordination.” Michael: “Our customers have specific requirements for stickers. To manage this efficiently via Floriday, we worked with other exporters and growers to find a solution. We send a PDF with stickers straight through Floriday. The grower then applies the sticker on site. This now saves us a lot of work in logistics.”

Everything centralised in Floriday

Michael emphasises the importance of a single centralised workflow: “The more that goes through Floriday, the easier it is for growers and ourselves. Having orders and stickers in a single package prevents duplication of effort. And if a grower can apply the stickers, we send a PDF directly via Floriday. That saves us a lot of logistical work.”

Getting people on board with a new way of working

The biggest challenge? Getting buy-in. Martijn: “You have to start thinking differently: no longer ordering with comments, but ordering directly from the catalogue. That provides faster confirmation and prevents errors.” Michael: “What used to happen in the industry was that people would order a stock item with the product colour ‘red’ and add a note saying: please supply blue. That’s no longer possible, and that’s better for our processes. A different way of ordering might take some getting used to, but it delivers significant efficiency gains.”

Lessons and results

With the benefit of hindsight, Michael would allow more time between major changes and involve all purchasing groups from the outset. Nevertheless, he is proud: “95% of our orders are now placed based on the range in Floriday. The labelling process saves a lot of work and the Floriday Explorer helps buyers with their product range selection. We now have real control over the process.”

Martijn concludes: “The technology is in place, and it works seamlessly. That’s what we’re here for.”
