How digitisation can accelerate the path to sustainability
October 25, 2025
Consumers, buyers, media and governments increasingly expect transparency when purchasing flowers and plants. Digitisation can greatly contribute to this transparency by facilitating the sharing of sustainability information.
Certification plays a central role in making the sector more sustainable. Certification makes it transparent how responsibly the flowers and plants have been grown. In Floriday, growers can easily link their certificates to their profile page and thus share them transparently with buyers. Buyers can filter by certificates and see at a glance which products meet the right standards. This allows them to make conscious choices, while growers can showcase their sustainability efforts. In addition to certificates, growers can further tell their story with explanations or videos. This increases buyer confidence and makes sustainability concrete and transparent.
Packaging register: simpler and more transparent
The Packaging Register is an important step in the dissemination of sustainability data. This central register makes it possible to manage and share packaging data in a streamlined manner. For growers and buyers, this means less administrative burden when it comes to sustainability reports and waste tax returns. By making packaging data available via Floriday, buyers have direct access to the information they need. This encourages sustainability because we gain a better understanding of the use of packaging materials. The register is the result of collaboration between Royal FloraHolland, VGB, Floriday, HSPI, Floricode and Floriday.
Unlocking the FloriPEFCR score
With the approval of the FloriPEFCR (Floriculture Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules) by the European Commission in February 2024, the floriculture sector now has a standardised way of measuring the environmental impact of floriculture products, creating a level playing field for growers and traders. By unlocking the FloriPEFCR score via Floriday in the future, growers will be able to provide insight into their performance. Traders can use this information to generate a clear overview of their transactions and the associated environmental impact.
Working together towards a transparent and sustainable sector
Digital innovations such as the Packaging Register, insight into certification via Floriday and a clear path to full certification make sustainability concrete and measurable.
