Bloomstay Innovates with Sustainable Tulip Concept
October 17, 2025

During a festive evening filled with innovation and inspiration, Bloomstay was awarded the Glazen Tulp Award in the Concepts category. Their sustainable tulip concept stood out for its innovation and creativity. “New developments are crucial for a distinctive market position,” said David van Mechelen, interim CEO of Royal FloraHolland. “With this award, we recognize the craftsmanship and passion of our members.” Thom van Rijssel, owner of Bloomstay, shares that sentiment: “It’s a confirmation that we’re on the right track. Outside the sector, there was already a lot of enthusiasm, but within the sector, there’s also critical feedback – and that keeps you sharp.”
A Unique and Sustainable Idea
What makes this product so special? The tulips are presented on individual, biodegradable sticks that consumers can use creatively. “There are similar products out there, but we wanted to develop something that’s more sustainable and offers more freedom,” Thom explains. The idea originated in 2022 and led to a biodegradable stick that allows consumers to create their own tulip arrangements. After an intensive testing phase, the product is now ready for market launch.
Added Value for the Consumer
Bloomstay offers not only a sustainable solution but also a unique experience. “Consumers can personalize it. Plus, the flowers last a long time, which enhances the overall experience.”
Impact and Vision for the Future
Bloomstay hopes their concept will set a new trend in the tulip sector. “We want to offer consumers a sustainable and personal experience with this iconic flower. And above all: lots of enjoyment in using it.” The next step? Stable sales and further product development.

Esperit Elements: The Audience Award! “A Living Artwork in Glass”
With Landscape by Esperit, product designer Rianne le Feber literally brings nature indoors. In glass vases and stone bowls, miniature landscapes emerge featuring moss, plants, and intricate details. “A world of experience you can dream away in,” says Rianne.
The idea was born from their passion for greenery in glass and the desire to add more storytelling. The development came with challenges, but the concept is now widely applicable, including in terrariums. Winning the audience award feels like a great recognition of their work.
According to Esperit, the concept aligns with the trends of greenery, slow living, and sustainability. Their advice to other growers? “Dare to play and experiment.”

Second Place: Wardians – The Victoria
With The Victoria, Wardians introduces an innovative terrarium concept that blends design and nature. This atmospheric lamp with an integrated ecosystem combines unique plants and mosses in a sealed glass vase, topped with a warm light. The result is a self-sustaining piece of nature for the home, wrapped in stylish and sustainable design. “We wanted to bring together the best of both worlds,” says Matthijs Paauwe of Wardians.
