Tesselaar strengthens sales strategy with Floriday Daytrade: ‘Greater reach among customers’

Tesselaar Alstroemeria from Luttelgeest has been a well-known player in the floriculture sector for many years. With more than 30 million stems per year, grown on ten hectares, the family business focuses entirely on one product: the alstroemeria. The recent decision to use Floriday Daytrade has proven to be a valuable addition to Tesselaar's sales strategy.

Since the end of 2022, Tesselaar has been working entirely digitally via Floriday. ‘We believe in the power of digital working, and Floriday is our central platform for this,’ says Ilse Vink, sales and back office coordinator. ‘A large part of our flowers go through the auction, but we also look at the opportunities in day trading for each period. In the summer in particular, we supplement our regular lines with flexible offerings.’

Responding to current demand
With the introduction of Floriday Daytrade, Tesselaar is responding even better to the market. ‘Everything we harvest today is at a hub that same night and is available to buyers the next morning,’ Ilse explains. ‘Anything that remains unsold goes to the clock a day later. This allows us to maintain our visibility on the clock while taking advantage of day trading opportunities.’ The benefits are already becoming apparent. Small buyers can order smaller quantities more easily, and the logistics handling via the hubs provides relief. ‘We can now fulfil orders that we previously couldn't deliver because the logistics were too complicated. Bundling via a single trolley to Royal FloraHolland makes this possible,’ says Ilse.

A process in development
The switch to Daytrade also requires practical adjustments. ‘We are still looking for the most efficient way to label the trolleys. Our goal is to apply the label when loading, so that we can switch more quickly,’ says Ilse.

Valuable additional channel
Ilse has a clear message for other growers: ‘Daytrade offers you additional opportunities without losing your existing channels and customers. You can also fulfil smaller orders without creating more work. It is important to inform your customers about your shop in Floriday so that they know where to find your products.’

Greater reach
The expansion of Daytrade to the Aalsmeer hub has further increased Tesselaar's sales opportunities. ‘We are seeing an increase in demand for day trading and customers are finding our products more quickly. This has increased our reach among customers and Daytrade has now become an integral part of our sales strategy,’ concludes Ilse.
