Sector Platform consultation: working together for a future-proof floriculture sector
The second Sector Platform consultation of this year took place on 18 June. During this consultation, representatives of growers, buyers, Royal FloraHolland and other involved organisations discussed important topics that contribute to further digitalisation, cooperation and sustainability within the floriculture sector. The Sector Platform meets quarterly and comprises participants from Royal Lemkes, Dutch Flower Group, Van der Plas, FM Group, Florius Flowers, Lugt Lisianthus, KP Holland, VGB and Royal FloraHolland. The aim of the consultation is to strengthen mutual cooperation and jointly realise a transparent and digital supply chain, with Floriday as the central platform.
Focus on adoption, safety and sustainability
During the consultation, Floriday gave an update on the adoption of the platform. While plant growers and buyers have widely adopted the platform, there is still room for growth in the flower trade. Together, the importance of a sector-wide cooperation between growers, buyers, software suppliers and Royal FloraHolland was stressed in order to take further steps in the use of Floriday in the flower trade.
Another key theme was digital security. Given Floriday's central role, increasing digital resilience is essential. The introduction of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an important step in this direction. By adopting MFA as a standard, we reduce the risk of account abuse and strengthen the reliability of the platform.
Sustainability was also high on the agenda. There was discussion about opening up sustainability data through Floriday, including the packaging register and FloriPEFCR. The latter allows the environmental impact of floriculture products to be scientifically calculated and compared. During the consultations, it was agreed that from the platform's point of view, the focus should be more on making this data available and sharing it.
Working together for a digital and sustainable future
As an industry, we want to work together to further digitalise the floriculture industry. The Sector Platform Consultation provides a valuable consultation opportunity to share and discuss specific steps. Only by working together can we build a future-proof, transparent and sustainable floriculture sector.
