Valentine's day: more Roses traded at Royal FloraHolland than in 2023
February 15, 2024
In the two weeks before valentine, 166 million Roses were sold on Royal FloraHolland's marketplace, 15 million more than last year. This made the rose the best-selling flower. Red Roses from the Netherlands were particularly in demand. The number of premium roses from the Netherlands was 2.8 million higher than last year. Back then, some growers were forced to put their greenhouse/glasshouses 'cold'.
The total number of flowers sold was 519 million, of which 304 million were grown in the Netherlands. Both in total and produced in the Netherlands, the number was higher than last year. Fewer growers together produced more. The Average Selling Price (ASP) of cut flowers was again slightly lower in the past two weeks than the year before. The most popular houseplant/pot plant remains Phalaenopsis. Production, due to dropped production, was a lot lower than last year, which was, however, almost entirely compensated by better pricing.
