September 23, 2024
Two days with carousels, workshops, a vote and good discussions. In a nutshell, the two-day Members’ Council meeting that took place in Wassenaar on 18 and 19 September. The Members’ Council talked among themselves, but also with Royal FloraHolland management, the Supervisory Board and various people from the company about various current topics. At the end of day two, everyone was satisfied with the steps made and how we discussed everything together. A positive and good contribution was made to all topics and thus to our cooperative.
Review of looking back to our two days meeting
The first day started with a Governance workshop provided by NCR (National Cooperative Council). Next, the Supervisory Board and Management presented the multi-year plan. The Members’ Council then met together to discuss the various topics in a carousel format. In open and direct discussions, there was room for questions about Royal FloraHolland's strategy, among other things. The Youth Council was also present during the afternoon program.
On the second day, voting took place for the new chairman of the Members’ Council as of January 1, 2025. This was followed by a Q&A between the Members’ Council and management on topics including: Floriday Covenant, Floriway, sustainability certification and other topics. In the afternoon, there were substantive discussions with several people from Royal FloraHolland about volume discounting, advance notice tariffs 2025 and the 2025 Member Packages.
New chairman Members’ Council announced
On the second day, after pitches, we voted for a new chairman. With conviction, Marcel van der Lugt (Lugt Lisianthus) was elected chairman. Marcel, together with his vice chairman Edwin Stofbergen (Stofbergen Plant Company), will succeed the current chairman and vice chairman as of January 1, 2025. Marcel: “my ambition is precisely to show members what we stand for. As Members’ Council we are the voice of all members. So it is really important that we represent them”.
Peter Smak, current chairman, says: “being chairman of our Members’ Council is a wonderful task with a beautiful responsibility. In recent years we have made great strides as Members’ Council . I am very happy that Marcel has been elected and will take over this task from me as of January 1. Together with my brother, I will give more attention to our company. The cooperation with Robin (van der Knaap) as vice chairman was pleasant and instructive. Fortunately, we will both continue to finish our term as Member Council members and make our contribution to the Member Council and thus to our cooperative. A warm handover to Marcel and Edwin will follow this coming period.”
