'Make your challenges known to the FPC, that makes all the difference for your product': Juriaan Weerheim, FPC Gerbera

Juriaan Weerheim is a member of the board of directors of Kwekerij de Zuidplas. He recently took over his brother Leen's spot on the FPC (Floraholland Product Committee) Gerbera. For this he followed the introductory training FPC. Juriaan tells you about his experiences with the training and why everyone from the FPC should take this training.

'Previously, Leen, my brother and co-director of the nursery, was on the FPC. His term was over and a vacancy was posted. Since we consider the Cooperative very important, I don't think you should then sit quietly on the sidelines. I am also committed to the general interest. Together we must ensure that the auction is successful. And you can contribute a lot as an FPC member.

As a new member of the FPC you receive a practical introductory training in which you are given good tools to help you contribute to a meeting, but also what your position is within the greater whole of Royal FloraHolland. This provides insight into what matters you do and do not deal with in the FPC. The training also had plenty of room for practical examples. One addressed the fact that everyone looks at the same meeting item with their own interest or different perspective. That gives more understanding of the other person's opinion.

I do think the course should be more mandatory. Not all new members of the FPC attend, while it is very valuable that you sit together with several FPCs and learn from each other. You notice that there are differences but also similarities between FPCs. In addition, you have a much better idea of how the auction is put together and you learn meeting techniques that I did not yet know. I always go in with the motto: you never get dumber. Even if you think you already know everything, there is always something to learn.

I would like to pass on to all FPC members; let your supporters know what you are doing, how you are doing it and make it clear to them what they can gain from the FPC. That way you make sure they know where to find you with their input.

The message to the grassroots; know who is in the FPC from your product and don't hesitate to make your points known to the FPC. Because that can make a difference. Together we cannot please everyone in our Royal FloraHolland Cooperative, but if we do not share anything, the points cannot be discussed either.'
