Rate for storage of Connect Logistics’ load carriers as of 1 July 2023
March 15, 2023

In 2022, Royal FloraHolland used Connect Logistics to process nearly 1.5 million load carriers (auction trolleys and CC containers) containing flowers or plants bought directly from growers. As per the 1-hour service, we deliver just over half of these to the customer's box during Connect Logistics' opening hours. The remaining half is stored and delivered later, either at the request of growers and transporters or on account of delivery outside Connect Logistics' opening hours.
Rate for storage as of 1 July 2023
Connect Logistics is required to do extra work when storing load carriers that contain flowers or plants. As things stand, the collective pays these costs. Following consultations with a number of members, it has therefore been decided to invoice the cost of storage directly to growers using the service as of 1 July 2023.
What will change?
As of 1 July 2023, in addition to the usual €2.93 rate (trolley levy) for delivery as per the 1-hour service, Connect Logistics will be charging an additional rate per business day* for storage of load carriers as follows:
- €1.35 per load carrier stored unrefrigerated
- €2.26 per load carrier stored refrigerated
There will be no change to the usual rate of €2.93 per load carrier for delivery of trade to buyers as per the 1-hour service during opening hours. This rate is, and will remain, the same this year as 2022, which is why we have deliberately decided not to increase it from 1 January 2023.
* Storage over the weekend from Friday 17:00 to Monday morning 04:00 will count as one business day.
When does this rate apply?
The calculation examples given here show you how we calculate the cost of storage if you supply load carriers outside Connect Logistics' opening hours or request temporary storage yourself.
You will see the cost of storage of load carriers by Connect Logistics on your services invoice.
Time of supply | Delivery to buyer | Storage rate |
---|---|---|
Monday to Thursday 17:00 - 23:59 | Next business day | Yes, because load carrier has been supplied outside opening hours. |
Monday to Friday 00:00 - 03:59 | Same day as supply | Yes, because load carrier has been supplied outside opening hours. |
Monday to Friday 07:00 - 17:00 | Next business day | Yes, because load carrier is stored on request and delivered one business day later. |
Saturday and Sunday | Monday | Yes, because load carrier has been supplied outside opening hours. |
Calculation example A
Suppose you supply a CC container with plants on Saturday at 09.00. The CC container will then be delivered to the buyer on Monday morning around 06.00. The CC container is stored unrefrigerated for two days over the weekend. Storage over the weekend from Friday 17.00 to Monday morning 04.00 will count as one business day. In this case, you pay a total of €4.28 for delivery to the buyer by Connect Logistics. On top of the trolley levy of €2.93, you will also be charged the €1.35 rate for unrefrigerated storage for one business day.
Calculation example B
Suppose you supply an auction trolley of flowers on Wednesday at 20.00. The auction trolley will then be delivered to the buyer at 06.00 the next morning. The auction trolley is then stored refrigerated for one business day. In this case, you pay a total of €5.19 for delivery to the buyer by Connect Logistics. On top of the €2.93 trolley charge, you will also be charged the €2.26 rate for refrigerated storage for one business day.
