Fewer phone calls and more control over logistics: how Levoplant uses Floriday to share transport information

“Where is my order? Is the trolley on its way yet? And are you sure everything went with it?” These are familiar questions for many growers and their internal staff. Phalaenopsis grower Levoplant used to receive these kinds of calls regularly as well. By sharing scan data via Floriday, Levoplant has now taken an important step towards greater transparency in transport and significantly less manual follow‑up. This scan data shows where an order is at specific moments in the logistics process, such as when it is loaded for transport. As a trading platform, Floriday is now also expanding its role as a central hub where logistical information comes together.

Levoplant and Floriday: from trade to delivery

Levoplant is a phalaenopsis grower based in Honselersdijk, handling large volumes through a highly automated process. Each year, around 5 million plants – soon even 7 million – leave the nursery, destined for premium retail channels such as higher‑end supermarket chains, DIY stores and garden centre chains. Consistency, predictability and control over logistics are essential.

Levoplant has been working for many years with a highly automated software landscape for internal logistics and order processing. As part of this, scans are being made at various stages of the growing and processing process for around ten years already. Frank van Holsteijn, Team Lead Digital & Data at Levoplant, is responsible for software and data processing together with his team. “We already capture the Track & Trace information of every product throughout the entire process – from cutting to delivery. It’s nice that we can now also share that information with buyers via Floriday.”

By sharing specific scans with Floriday, this existing Track & Trace data becomes visible to buyers as well. Purchase orders and transport statuses come together on Floriday, allowing buyers to get increasingly more insight in whether an order is on its way. That insight continues to grow as more growers and carriers share scan information.

From internal scan to transport insight in Floriday

The process at Levoplant is clearly structured. Once a trolley with plants has been picked, the picking slip is scanned and an auction letter is automatically created. As soon as the driver loads the trolley for transport, that auction letter is scanned again. The load scan is shared with Floriday and forms the basis of Track & Trace information for the buyer. “At that moment, we know for sure: this trolley has gone into the truck,” Frank explains. “And that information is exactly what many questions are about when we get calls from buyers.” Via Floriday, buyers then gain insight into the status of their order, linked directly to transport.

Fewer phone calls thanks to shared transport information

The main reason for sharing scan information? Fewer phone calls: “Our customer service team regularly received questions like: where is my trolley? Or: did you really load all six?” Frank says. “We already had that information internally, but the buyer didn’t.” By sharing scans via Floriday, buyers can now see for themselves that an order is on its way.

This saves time, frustration and unnecessary searching. One phone call easily takes 30 minutes, while the same question can be avoided with Track & Trace information. “Labour is expensive,” says Frank. “And apart from that: you simply want to have this properly arranged for your customer. If you order a package yourself, you also expect to be able to track it.”

Low threshold, big impact

For Levoplant, there were few adoption barriers. “We were already scanning internally,” says Frank. “It was mainly about making that information available externally as well.” Any initial teething issues in the integration have now been resolved. “It just works smoothly now. We hardly hear anything about it anymore – and that’s a good sign.” This also presents an opportunity for other growers. Those who already scan can often add a lot of value for their customers with just a small step. And for growers without their own scanning system, Floriday offers low‑threshold scanning options, for example via the scan app.

All transport information in Floriday

By sharing scans via Floriday, a single central location is created where logistical information comes together. Buyers no longer have to switch between growers, carriers and separate systems, but can track their deliveries on the platform. Without having to call the grower or carrier.

Track & Trace, according to Levoplant, therefore goes beyond just 'fewer calls'. It contributes to a more professional and transparent chain. “I just expect to be able to follow something from origin to destination,” says Frank. “The fact that this is not yet standard everywhere in our sector actually feels old-fashioned.”

Working together towards better transport insight

Levoplant shows that Track & Trace is not just something for buyers, but starts with growers. By sharing scan information via Floriday, buyers gain insight into their deliveries. This helps them with planning and decision-making, and can ultimately lead to fewer queries for the grower.

“The ball has started rolling,” Frank concludes. “This is the time to tackle it. Everyone benefits from this.”
