Members: "Members' Council could improve the quality of decision-making"29 May 2018
The pilot Members' Council organised members' sessions from 8 to 24 May 2018 nationally and abroad. Four topics were key: the Members' Council proposal, an update on the strategic direction, the annual accounts and strengthening the clock.
The emphasis lay mainly on the proposal for a Members' Council, which will be submitted to a vote by the members during the GMM on May 31. At the members' sessions, the attendees generally responded positively to the idea. They mentioned one strong advantage, which is that a Members' Council could improve the quality of the decision-making. The consultation sessions with members form an important element of this. The discussion concerned the composition of the Members' Council and whether the emergency brake would be sufficiently influential.
The role of the FPCs in relation to a Members' Council was repeatedly raised in the discussions. Formally speaking, there is no link between the FPCs and the Members' Council. For example, the FPCs are not involved in appointing the Members' Council. FPCs will continue to have an important role in linking the Members' Council with the members. There will be regular consultations between the Members' Council and a delegation from the FPCs, and the FPCs will receive information about the recommendations and decision-making of the Members' Council.
Members stated during the sessions that a careful process was followed, and they are looking forward to more concrete information, like the profile for candidates.
Members of the pilot Members' Council supervised the members' sessions, and experts in the field of authority clarified the situation. The Supervisory Board presented the proposal for the Members' Council, and the MT provided an update about the strategic direction, the annual accounts and the feedback on strengthening the clock.
Strategy and Strengthening the clock
During the sessions an update was given about the company's strategic direction. The revised focus on core activities in the strategy was well received. Members did ask for attention to be paid to the realisation of the plans and potential changes concerning promotion. Regarding the strengthening of the clock, the members considered the proposed plans to deal with excesses, auction sequence, digitalisation and loyalty to be a good development.
