Working together to ensure the correct use of transport packaging

Transport packaging are indispensable for the optimal functioning of logistics processes. This applies to our own logistics and also to the floriculture chain. Without these resources (such as packaging, stacking trolleys, and CC containers), processes come to a standstill and the interests of our suppliers and buyers are jeopardized. That is why our Mobile Inspection Team monitors the correct use of our transport packaging on a daily basis, both on and off our auction grounds.

Optimal management is crucial: it prevents misuse of our valuable transport packaging and ensures a level playing field in terms of use for and by everyone.

How do we keep control of usage?
To keep the use of transport packaging fair and efficient, Royal FloraHolland carries out checks 24/7. We do this in various ways:

  • Analysis of various logistics and commercial data.
  • Visits by our Mobile Inspection Team (MCP), both announced and unannounced, to the gardens of suppliers, buyers' business locations, and trading places in the Netherlands and Europe to check the use of our transport packaging. Cooperation with these checks is mandatory and forms part of our terms and conditions.

 

99% goes well, but sometimes it doesn't
Fortunately, 99% of the checks go smoothly and we see enthusiastic business contacts who handle our resources correctly. However, there is a small group that does not follow the rules. Sometimes this is due to ignorance, in which case we explain the rules. But in the case of deliberate violations, we intervene with our sanctions policy, whereby penalties become more severe as violations and repeat offences increase. We do not like to do this, but it is necessary to maintain a level playing field.
