How efficient is the efficient flower bucket Fc588?
02 February 2021
We introduced the new efficient flower bucket Fc588 almost two years ago. With this, we are responding to the increased usage of CC containers by the trade in export and the demand for a flower bucket with smart sizes. The introduction has been a success. However, how efficient is it really, and are we achieving the expected load efficiency in the chain?
The use of Fc588 is still increasing and, in the meantime, more than 23 million rotations have taken place. We expect a further increase in usage, however, for a number of products, Fc577 will remain preferable.
Efficiency gain with flower bucket Fc588
We introduced the efficient flower bucket Fc588 in March 2019. One of the benefits is the increased packing configuration: 50% on CC containers (six instead of four buckets per layer) and 11% on trolleys and cage carts (ten instead of nine buckets per layer). The figures reveal that this is actually being achieved in practice. For auction trolleys, we are even seeing an even more increased packing configuration efficiency. For a number of products, the number of bucket has not only gone from nine to ten per layer. The Fc588 also offers the possibility to not have two, but rather three layers per trolley, which further increases the packing configuration.
A group of suppliers still prefers the Fc577. This often has to do with specific product properties, such as bud size, which means an increase in packing configuration is not possible.
Sustainable export packaging
Due to the increased packing configuration, the Fc588 is also a more sustainable packaging. As of right now, there have been up to 4000 trips saved in the supply alone. And the number of saved trips is also very high with the accompanying transport in the chain. Especially for traders who make use of CCs for transport to their customers. Their savings can be up to 50%.
Dick van Bommel (Heemskerk Flowers): "Staff costs used to be our biggest expense. Now transport costs are your biggest expense because customers place smaller orders and order more often. We like to limit these costs, and the new Fc588 helps us do that. To limit the volume, we repack a lot of trade in the Fc577 to the Fc588. With the Fc588, this isn't necessary nearly as often. The Fc588 might be slightly less stable in the case of very tall flowers, but there are few of those. In short, we work more efficiently and more sustainably with the Fc588."
How we recycle old flower buckets for new ones
During the production of the Fc588, we recycle unnecessary buckets such as the Fc577. The recyclate from this has been added to the production of the new Fc588 buckets. In this way, we're making new buckets from the old ones and thus contributing to the circularity.
Release all products (summer 2021)
We have chosen for a phased introduction per product group. As a result, we have been able to guarantee availability every single time, while the new bucket were made for the next product groups. After the peak of 2021, we expect to have enough buckets and shelves to completely release the use. As soon as we now more about this time, you will read more about it.
