“In this way, we keep the Auction as strong as possible”20 May 2021
Last year, we launched the Nationwide Auctioning Cut Anthurium pilot. Marco Oosterom from ‘Kwekerij Oosterzon’ (Oosterzon Nursery) talks about the pilot that was set up with growers and auctioneers. What benefits has it brought?
We highlight Royal FloraHolland members in a series of portraits. Entrepreneurs, thinkers and innovators who enter into conversation with each other and the Royal FloraHolland management about the issues we are facing as a cooperative. Special people with their own ideas and a common dream: a blossoming future for our cooperative was the basis for the Members' Council. Marco (at the back in the photo) is in the FPC Anthurium and was involved in the Nationwide Auctioning Cut Anthurium pilot.

"With a team of growers and auctioneers, we've put the 'Nationwide Auctioning Cut Anthurium pilot' in place. That was intense. When the pilot was up and running, we had daily consultations at first. That later became fortnightly then monthly consultations. I like investing time in this. I think it's important to devote myself to the auction in this way. "In this way, we keep the Auction as strong as possible" And as a grower, I'm happy to take up the gauntlet."
"The Anthurium is currently auctioned at a set time. And it's no longer auctioned last. We've already achieved this now. New issues are also coming to light as a result of the pilot. We're taking this on board in the Nationwide Auctioning Support Team There was very good communication from the auction about the changes surrounding the nationwide auction. However, when the Auction was up and running, there were still buyers who didn't know this. That's a lesson for the next time. There are so many interested parties. There's always a chance in that case that someone is not aware of it. You have to take that into account."
"These types of changes sometimes meet resistance. In that case, I try to make everyone enthusiastic by explaining it as much and as well as possible. The world is changing. We must ensure together that we are prepared for the future."
More about the Nationwide Auctioning Cut Anthurium pilot
Nationwide Auctioning is one of the focal points of Royal FloraHolland's strategy. In September last year, we launched the Nationwide Auctioning Cut Anthurium pilot. Together with suppliers and buyers of cut anthuriums, we wanted to experience what it's like to auction nationwide. The pilot was carried out with the current auctioning system and was not, therefore, representative of the final situation. However, elements of Ordering and Delivery for Nationwide Auctioning could be tested. A lot could be learned from this.
With this pilot, for example, we took the first steps towards aligning certain aspects of auctioning, such as one auction time for one product group and entering quantities. And we're testing elements of our logistics services, such as transport between the locations; even if this was a different location than where the products were supplied.
