Additional Members' Council meeting to reflect on petition objections22 April 2021
Today, the Members' Council voted on the emergency brake request. The Members' Council has decided that, on 20 May 2021, there will be an additional informal Members' Council meeting where all members will have the opportunity to speak.
The Members' Council has decided to grant the emergency brake request to hold an additional informal meeting of the Members' Council on Thursday, 20 May 2021 in order to discuss the petitioners' objections, insofar as these relate to the advisory role of the Members' Council and the implementation of strategy. This request was approved by 96.88% of the votes.
The other two requests were rejected with 81.25% of the votes.
This Members' Council decision goes beyond the recommendation made by the three chairs to the Members' Council. The Members' Council thus wishes to provide maximum scope for discussion with members in order to reflect on the petitioners' objections, insofar as these relate to the advisory role of the Members' Council and the implementation of strategy.
The Members' Council has reached this decision based on discussions it has held with a large number of members, which have revealed that the petition signatories mainly have concerns about the functioning of Floriday, and that there are various objections with regard to digital environmental registration and certification. Moreover, there is still much uncertainty in relation to Floriway, as well as queries about the role and position of the Members' Council. Even non-signatories of the petition acknowledge the situation, but feel that the response to it is too extreme.
Implementation of strategy could and should have been better in certain areas
Marcel van Tol, Members' Council chair: "In its decision, the Members' Council has indicated that it supports Royal FloraHolland's strategy. However, the Members' Council is of the opinion that the implementation of strategy could and should have been better in certain areas. Furthermore, as a Members' Council, we believe that we stand in our power, but that there is nonetheless room for improvement in our contacts with members and in the performance of our advisory duties."
The Members' Council therefore wishes to discuss these matters with its members in an informal meeting of the Members' Council. All members of Royal FloraHolland will have the opportunity to speak at this meeting. This additional Members' Council meeting will take place on Thursday 20 May. In a formal Members' Council meeting to be held shortly after 20 May, Members' Council members will assess everything that has been submitted and reach a conclusion.
