Stricter lockdown Germany14 December 2020
In Germany, agreement has been reached on a stricter lockdown. The new measures will enter into force on Wednesday 16 December 2020 and will last until 10 January 2021.
Chancellor Merkel announced that non-essential shops will have to be closed, as will flower shops, garden centres and DIY shops. Shops for food and essential products will remain open, such as supermarkets. However, it is still unclear what it will mean for the sale of flowers and plants, as each state can still take autonomous decisions. According to the German trade union BGI, the parliaments of the various Länder will not decide until tomorrow, 15 December 2020.
There was already a partial lockdown in Germany. The catering industry was already closed, but schools and shops remained open. Nevertheless, tens of thousands of new infections are occurring every day. This put pressure on politicians to come up with new measures.
We are closely monitoring the situation. You will receive more information from us when more is known about the measures taken there and the impact on the points of sale of flowers and plants.
