Adjustment to flower bucket and rack rent structure for level playing field
14 December 2020
Following the previous successful rent-structure adjustment to Fc566 and Fc596, we will also be adjusting the rent structure of our other flower buckets and racks from 4 January 2021. On distribution, we charge twice the rent amount and reimburse one rent payment to the supplier when supplying through Royal FloraHolland, Plantion or Auction RheinMaas.
In this way we prevent improper use of the packaging pool, which leads to a loss of rent. In addition, it creates a fairer playing field for suppliers. Nothing changes for the buyer.
Tacking the uneven playing field
Improper use might in include companies collecting packaging from our packaging locations, using this packaging for trade flows and not settling this through an auction. In this case, only one rental sum is paid instead of the two required. This gives companies not settling through an auction an advantage over companies that do so. Adjusting the rent structure puts this uneven playing field to an end.
How does the rent-structure adjustment work?
From 4 January 2021, we are charging rent twice when distributing flower buckets and racks. When supplying, we subsequently reimburse one rent sum to the supplier. A supplier settling though an auction pays for each balance, which is exactly the same as the current situation. For buyers, payment of the rental amount through the commercial transaction remains unchanged. The adjustment is presented below in diagram form:
Result for suppliers remains unchanged
Suppliers using flower buckets and racks and their products simply settle through paying an auction as much packaging rent as in the current situation. The impact for proper usage is restricted to the short term pre-financing of a relatively limited rental fee. This adjustment provides a more level playing field, with the same use costing the same amount.

For almost all flower buckets and racks, the rent structure is changing on 4 January 2021. The tulip season means the change for FC533, Fc560 and Fc580 will apply on 5 July 2021.
