Tighter measures for customers at Aalsmeer and Rijnsburg and clock pre-sales adjustments09 April 2020
Due to the tightened measures around the corona crisis and the maximum set by the RIVM of 100 people allowed at one location, we have closely monitored the occupancy of the auction rooms at our locations, and we can now see that some locations have reached critical points.
We have had to decide to tighten the measures at the locations Aalsmeer and Rijnsburg, to keep in line with the measures, starting on Thursday 9 April:
- We request that you order as much as you can from a distance, using KOA. Don't have a KOA subscription yet? You can read how to apply for one below.
- The auction rooms will have admission control to ensure that we are not exceeding the maximum of 100 people. This means that upon entering the auction room, the number of people and the necessity to buy from the auction will be checked. If applicable, admission to the auction room can be denied.
- If necessary, you will be redirected to an alternative workplace and/or auction room at the location where you can place orders. For Aalsmeer this is auction room E and if possible and necessary this will be extended to auction room F. For Rijnsburg these are the offices at the first floor of the office building.
Image auctioning at Rijnsburg (from 10 April)
At the location Rijnsburg, there will be additional measures, as this location came close to the critical number of 100 people even with the measures that were already taken during the past few weeks/days. In addition to this we expect that the market will rise again, which will mean an increase in purchasing power. To ensure that there are similar purchasing environments, for both KOA customers as well as auction room customers, we will introduce image auctioning for all clocks from Friday 10 April and the following days. This means that the flowers and plants will not appear physically before the clock anymore. We expect that this will decrease the amount of customers from the auction rooms.
At the moment there are no additional measures needed for the location Naaldwijk. Location Eelde will communicate with its customers with regards to the specific conditions there. Of course, we will inform you about this if necessary, and until then we will continue to closely monitor the situation.
Adjustment clock presales percentage back to 50%.
From Tuesday 14 April 2020, the maximum percentage clock presales will be reduced to 50% for all product groups. Due to the adjusted supply regulation per product group, we can see that supply and demand are better balanced and that the need for a higher percentage has been eliminated. In this way, we are also limiting the number of (small-scale) logistic transactions, which slightly reduces the pressure on the distribution process and lead times. The reason mentioned above was the deciding factor to adjust the clock presale percentage downwards. Starting tomorrow (9 April 2020) this will be visible in Floriday.

We completely understand the situation that growers and buyers are currently in. Nevertheless, we are forced to take the aforementioned measures to continue to guarantee the opening of the auction rooms. If the above measures do not provide satisfactory results, we must consider closing the auction rooms altogether. Therefore, we would be grateful for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
