Encouraging green innovations together

A liveable, green society is our ultimate goal. We do this by working with partners on various programmes, such as The Green Agenda, Floriade Expo 2022, Deltaplan's Biodiversity Restoration and More Green Cities for Europe, and by creating a healthy working environment for our employees.

Floriade Expo 2022

In 2022, the international horticultural exhibition Floriade Expo 2022 will take place in Almere. The theme of the event will be ‘Growing Green Cities’. Millions of international visitors will be introduced to developments in the field of greenery, food, health and energy. Royal FloraHolland is represented in the Floriade horticultural team. Our members are also represented in the Flowers and Plants Advisory Council.

Deltaplan Biodiversity Restoration

Good biodiversity helps to future-proof the production of floriculture products. Unfortunately, in recent years we have seen a sharp decline in the wealth of plants and animals in the Netherlands. We would like to contribute to its recovery and have therefore become a partner of the Deltaplan Biodiversity Restoration. Among other things, we are working on the Green Agenda programme and are ensuring that biodiversity is being implemented on a practical level both in and around the marketplace of Royal FloraHolland.

Healthy working environment

We also want to offer our employees, growers and customers a sustainable and healthy working environment. By building the new Floradôme office according to the guidelines of BREEAM (an integrated sustainability hallmark), we are making this ambition tangible. This is reflected in the use of solar panels, canopies, sun blinds, energy-efficient lighting, green planting and the use of recycled materials, among other things.

Greenovation Award

The international consumer increasingly expects a sustainable product. That is why we stimulate sustainable innovations in the chain and present the 'Greenovation Award' every year during the Trade Fair Aalsmeer. The Greenovation Award stands for the best sustainable product or concept introduction in floriculture in the year in question. Is your focus also on sustainability and are you innovating? If so, you might well be eligible to be nominated for the Greenovation Award this year. Enter your product using this registration form and put your product or concept in the spotlight!

The Green Agenda

Research is one of the things in which The Green City invests. We underpin the value of liveable, healthy and attractive cities by regularly contributing to scientific research and publications.

Within the framework of the Green Agenda Programme, knowledge institutions, universities and entrepreneurs work together on green innovations. The results are summarised in a series of fact sheets published on www.degroenestad.nl. To underline the importance of greenery in urban environments, it is important to communicate at an international level as well.
