Our progress so far
Evolution of the clock and revolution alongside the clock. That is the chosen direction for The New Auctioning.
To organize the marketplace of the future, there are three major changes needed:
- Auctioning process of the future
The arrival of a nationwide virtual morning clock in Aalsmeer and Naaldwijk. On the other locations a number of physical clocks will remain for a fee. Of course we make sure that things are well organized: quality of information is more important than ever.
Facilitating the small-scale use of logistics by growers and buyers. With both the clock and direct flows, there is a persistent trend in the sector towards ordering smaller quantities, which leads to a more expensive and complex logistics process. Automation with robots will help to organise this process more efficiently. In Aalsmeer we conducted an initial test to uncover what conditions a robot must fulfil in our process. It taught us a lot about how an AGV (automated guided vehicle) copes with trolleys. Using this information we are now preparing wider-ranging and bigger experiments.
- Flora Mondo 2.0
Achieving a 24/7 online transaction platform. This ensures optimum operation capabilities and maximum support in pricing.
- Today for Today
We are developing a nationwide, virtual auction clock for maximum concentration of supply and demand. This means that our customers will gain insight into the total supply of flowers and plants of the Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk and Rijnsburg locations.
- Today for Tomorrow
We are developing Today for Tomorrow: a clock at which you buy flowers or plants today and get them delivered tomorrow morning early (before 06:00). This means our buyers will know for certain which products they will get before the next day's auction process starts. Meanwhile, it gives us more time to distribute the products. How does Today for Tomorrow work from the moment of auctioning through the delivery to the buyer the next morning? To find out, we are conducting the first experiment in June with year-round spray chrysanthemums.
- Physical clocks
For the time being, customers can continue to use the current, physical clocks for a fee.
- Clock Presales
We are investigating which role Clock Presales can play in the auctioning process of the future. We will know more about this in the course of 2017.
