Sustainable responsibility
Discover the achieved results regarding sustainability:

Royal FloraHolland is working towards a future-proof floriculture industry in which flowers and plants are grown and traded with respect for people and the environment. Sustainability is once again a key objective for 2020. Because although we have achieved a lot, there is still room for improvement.
Transport packaging
Recycling packaging
Royal FloraHolland has been outsourcing waste management to Milgro since 1 September 2017. Milgro is the partner to help us realize our zero waste ambition. Our goals are:
- safeguarding the continuity of Royal FloraHolland's members and customers through adequate waste management
- optimizing the processes and increasing the sustainability of the auction as a whole
- shortening the waste chain
- a recycling percentage of 88% by 2022
The overall recycling percentage has increased to 85%.
Increasing the sustainability of operations
Sustainable energy contributes to a more future-proof organization. By increasing the sustainability of our total energy consumption, we will reduce our current footprint by 90%. With this, we also reduce the risk of remaining dependent on expensive and polluting fossil fuels.
- We are using the granted SDE subsidies (Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie, Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production) to build large sun energy installations at the Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk and Eelde locations. This way, our roofs will pay off and generate green electricity for our own use. It is expected that Eelde will run entirely on solar power in 2019.
- A new power contract was signed; Royal FloraHolland will have sustainably generated power as of 1 January 2020.
- We are preparing our Naaldwijk location for the generation of geothermal heat (geometry) to meet our heat demand.
Working sustainably
Royal FloraHolland has formulated explicit sustainability ambitions. One of them is offering employees, growers and customers a sustainable and healthy working environment. We are concretizing this ambition with the construction of the new offices according to the BREEAM guidelines, which is an integral sustainability feature. You can see this in the use of solar panels, canopies, awnings, energy-efficient lighting, green planting and the use of recycled materials.
