Members' Council in a nutshell
Royal FloraHolland switched from a General Members' Meeting (GMM) to a Members' Council on 1 January 2019. The object was to increase member commitment and to improve discussions about cooperative subjects between members, the Management Board and the Supervisory Board (SB).
42 members were appointed to the Members' Council during the GMM of 6 December 2018. They represent the total membership of Royal FloraHolland and are a good reflection of this.
How does a Members' Council work?
There are many impactful initiatives within Royal FloraHolland that influence our future organization and the sale of our products. It is crucial that we allow our members to be heard clearly from the start and that we strengthen our mutual bonds and the sense of union and entrepreneurship.
The Members' Council is the link between the members, the Management Board and the SB and it consults members during interactive consultation sessions. During these sessions, members discuss important strategic themes. The results form the basis of the discussion that the Members' Council will have with the Management Board. Members can also approach the Members' Council directly about matters that they think are relevant. This way, members are involved in the decision-making process at an earlier stage and have more influence.
The Members' Council currently consists of four committees with different focus areas:
- Management Committee: This committee is concerned with appointments, functioning, training, possible establishment issues (such as amending the regulations), allowances and remuneration.
- Strategy Committee: This committee is concerned with strategic subjects in dialogue with the company and consequently prepares an important part of the advisory role of the Members' Council.
- Finance Committee: This committee is concerned with the financial aspects of the cooperative in dialogue with the company.
- Member Loyalty Committee: This committee prepares the various aspects of member loyalty, such as the consultation sessions with members and other meetings and contact moments.
The committees prepare subjects and advise the Members' Council about them. The final decision-making process takes place in the Members' Council.
What do we want to achieve?
We want to be a cooperative in which members are involved in important strategic themes from the start. We want members to constantly discuss important themes, shape the cooperative of the future together and continue to develop.
